Biography
Major General (Retd.) Shubid Ali Bhuiyan was born in Juranpur, Daudkandi Upazilla under the Comilla District of Bangladesh. After finishing his intermediate degree from Comilla Victoria College, he went on to study Islamic Studies at the prominent Dhaka University, in Dhaka. After graduating from Dhaka University, he joined the Pakistan Military Academy. Gen. Bhuiyan was commissioned from the Pakistan Military Academy in 1965 as a proud Bangladeshi officer. In 1971, he revolted against the Pakistani military aggressors and formed a resistance group consisting of local police, Bangladeshi soldiers and freedom fighters. Later he joined the freedom fight under the command of late president Ziaur Rahman and under the leadership of the Father of the Nation, Sheik Mujibor Rahman..
Gen. Bhuiyan participated in one of the most historical events in Bangladesh history. When the late president Ziaur Rahman gave his radio address to the nation delcaring the independence of Bangladesh on behalf of the Father of the Nation, Sheik Mojibur Rahman, Gen. Bhuiyan was in charge of protecting the Kalurghat Radio Station where the speech was broadcasted from. His valor and courage along with other freedom fighters, protected the radio station against the enemy, the Pakistaki military, and enabled the late president Ziaur Rahman to deliver the declaration of independence of Bangladesh. Major General (Retd.) Shubid Ali Bhuiyan served in the Bangladesh Army for 33 years with diligence and integrity. His leadership in a 1991 massive flood rescue and relief operation caught major international media attention which helped Bangladesh to get additional foreign aid. A brilliant military officer, Gen. Bhuiyan commanded several brigades during his tenure in the Bangladesh Army. He served as the Principal Staff Officer for the Bangladeshi Prime Minister from 1991 to 1996. As a PSO, he influenced the former Prime Minister and her cabinet to send Bangladeshi military troops to several United Nations peace keeping missions. The Bangladesh Army is highly praised in the international arena for their UN peace keeping services.
After retiring from the Army, Gen. Bhuiyan dedicated his life to social work in the greater Comilla area. With every flood, every tornado, and every other natural disaster, Gen. Bhuiyan extended his kind hand to the affected people of Daudkandi, Comilla. He helped people with the little savings he had from his service in the Bangladesh Army. His kindness and generosity led him to take money out of his retirement fund to help the poor. He stands beside the people of the greater Comilla area in times of good and bad. His heart cries for the people and he wants to help more. Gen. Bhuiyan came to the realization that in order to make major changes in Daudkandi, he needs to represent the people of the Comilla-1 constituency in the Bangladesh Parliament. He ran for election in 2001 as an independent candidate from Comilla-2. His massive grass root popularity scared his opponent, the former minister, Dr. Khadaker Musharraf of BNP, a highly corrupt politician who went to jail in 2008 for corruption charges. Musharraf's thugs took control of the voting polls through violence and stole people's votes. The people of Daudkandi could not exercise their civic right to vote in the 2001 parliamentary election. In 2001, a mockery of democracy was orchestrated by the corrupt BNP policy maker. In 2001, Major General (Retd.) Shubid Ali Bhuiyan, was defeated by corruption, thugs, illegal money, and dirty politics. His defeat was a defeat of the people of the Comilla-1 constituency, and a defeat of democracy.
Even after the defeat, Gen. Bhuiyan has not given up his fight against corruption. He continues his struggle while extending his generous hand to the people of Daudkandi. In 2003, he joined the Bangladesh Awami League to unite a strong political force against corruption. He was nominated as a Member of the Bangladesh Awami League Advisory Council in 2005. His fight against corruption will end when we can free the people of Daudkandi from the corrupt hand of Dr. Khandaker Musharaf. Major General (Retd.)
